Eschscholzia californica, commonly known as California poppy, is a species of flowering plant in the Papaveraceae family. It is native to California but also found in other parts of North America and Europe. It is an annual plant that grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 6 inches (15 cm) wide. The plant has gray-green, finely divided leaves and cup-shaped flowers that can be yellow, orange, or red.
