Acer glabrum is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to western North America. It typically grows up to 30 feet (9 meters) tall and has a rounded crown. The bark is smooth and gray when young, becoming rough and dark gray with age. The leaves are palmately lobed with 3-5 lobes and have a bright green color, turning yellow or red in the fall. The flowers are small and yellow-green, appearing in the spring before the leaves. The fruit is a paired samara with a wing that is 1-2 inches long.
