Chamaecyparis lawsoniana is an evergreen coniferous tree that can grow up to 230 feet (70 meters) tall. It has a narrow conical shape with drooping branches and scale-like leaves that are blue-green in color. The bark is reddish-brown and peels off in strips. It produces small cones that are about 0.4 inches (1 cm) in diameter.
